Im Mittelpunkt des Buches stehen die ehemaligen NS-Zwangslager aus historischer und archäologischer Perspektive. Nach einem kurzen Überblick über die Bemühungen der deutschen Archäologie, die materielle Hinterlassenschaft dieser Lager im heutigen Bundesgebiet zu erfassen, befasst sich der Band mit einer Fallstudie zur Situation im Großraum Leipzig. Die vorliegende Forschung trägt dazu bei, die pragmatischen Anforderungen der Bodenmalpflege in Bezug auf Material und Standort hervorzuheben und die Bedeutung der Erforschung der jüngsten Geschichte auf der Grundlage archäologischer Dokumentation zu verteidigen. Darüber hinaus handelt es sich um eine für die Region Leipzig wegweisende Studie, die einen Beitrag zum Erhalt ehemaliger Lagerstandorte und damit zur Verhinderung der unwissentlichen Zerstörung der archäologischen Informationen an diesen Orten leistet.

This book focuses on the former forced labour camps from the National Socialist era from a historical and archaeological perspective. After a brief review of German archaeology's efforts to record the former Nazi-camps in present-day German territory, the volume deals with the case study of the Leipzig metropolitan area. The research highlights the pragmatic requirements of archaeological monument preservation in terms of material and location, and defends the importance of researching recent history based on archaeological documentation. Furthermore, this is a pioneering study for the Leipzig region that contributes to the preservation of former camps and thus the prevention of unconscious destruction of archaeological heritage at these sites.
